25 JULY 2016 (Toronto, ON) – Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam have released “A 1000 Times” on Glassnote Records/Universal Music Records, the country’s leading music company. In the spirit of collaborations, not unlike those of David Byrne and Brian Eno, each musician’s individuality remains intact, while in fact, both Hamilton’s identity as a singer and Rostam’s as a producer seem to reach new heights.

“’A 1000 Times’ started with a beat I made while Hamilton and I were working out of my studio in LA. We picked it back up in New York and finished writing it in Washington, DC. I wanted us to do a song where the snares would crack as hard as Hamilton’s voice. To me, the song became about that interaction between the vocals and the drums,” says Rostam.

Of the collaboration, Leithauser said, “On that first trip we got so much more done than the 1-2 tracks we’d talked about…we had big parts of maybe 5-6 songs.  We knew we liked it all, but we hadn’t discussed the amount we wanted to make together. It was kind of a funny moment…like a ‘how far are we taking this relationship?’ kind of thing.  I don’t think we made a decision until a few months later, when our next session went well again.  At that point it was definitely going to be a lot more than a few tracks on my next solo record.”

More information on the collaboration to follow in the coming weeks.

GLASS ANIMALS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE ‘YOUTH’

1

GLASS ANIMALS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE ‘YOUTH’ | UmusicGLASS ANIMALS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE ‘YOUTH’ | Umusic

FROM THEIR NEW ALBUM ‘HOW TO BE A HUMAN BEING’ SET TO RELEASE AUGUST 26

26 JULY 2016 (Toronto, ON) – Following the success of their first single, ‘Life Itself’, today Glass Animals announce their hypnotic new single ‘Youth’. The track is taken from their hotly anticipated new album, How To Be A Human Being released via Caroline International / Wolf Tone / Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, on August 26 and available for preorder now.

How To Be a Human Being is a bold departure lyrically and sonically from the band’s debut ZABA. Having both written and produced the album, lead singer Dave Bayley pushed the project towards something heavier, grittier and rawer in sound and subject matter. Many of Dave’s lyrical ideas came from live recordings of people saved on his phone, as though he’d been operating as some sort of roaming journalist. “I try to sneakily record people, and I have hours and hours of these amazing rants from taxi drivers, people we met outside of shows, people at parties. People tell you some amazing things when they don’t think they’re ever gonna see you again.” The voice notes sparked ideas for characters that Dave developed, writing an album like a TV screenwriter might approach a script. I’d obsess over what they ate, where they lived, what their furniture looked like, what they wore,” he says. ’Youth’ and the accompanying visuals are typical of this. Telling one of stories that resonated the most with lead singer Dave’, he recalls:

“Someone told me a story about her son once that was one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard. What she said was completely heartbreaking, but she told it with such optimism and such a sense of calm. She was on the verge of crying, but she was also smiling and something in her face said that she had found a way to be happy again. This song is trying to get at that sentiment.”

Unveiled in mid-May as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record, ‘Life Itself’ has already elevated the band’s sonorous buzz to a whole new level. This has included A-list at BBC Radio 1, A-list at 6 music and seen the band gather in excess of 2 million monthly Spotify subscribers. Dave makes a point of not listening to his contemporaries when making music, preferring to look inwards to the world Glass Animals have built. In crafting this record, his thoughts returned to one factor he couldn’t even dream of on Zaba – the huge live audiences they’d been drawing. “You sense what the crowds react to: big drums, bass, high tempo.”

Glass Animals’ debut Zaba has so far sold nearly half a million copies worldwide and amassed a staggering 200 million Spotify streams, obliterating all expectations simply by word of mouth. Their anomalous rise has gained the Oxford four-piece a legion of fans all over the world, including festival appearances at the likes of Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and WayHome.

KENNY CHESNEY SETS COUNTRY RADIO ON FIRE JULY 28

1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Having just dropped a new title – Cosmic Hallelujah – for his upcoming album, Kenny Chesney continues ratcheting up the excitement by releasing “Setting The World On Fire” to country radio on July 28 at 5 p.m. ET. The duet, with triple Grammy-winning P!NK, captures the combustive euphoria of being on the brink of love – and was recorded in part at Rick Rubin’s Malibu studio.

With a tumbling guitar part, clean percussion and pillowy synth pads, the mid-tempo song builds and recedes, featuring a stand-out electric guitar solo from Kenny Greenberg. Invoking the dazzle of being lost in the heart of Saturday night: lipstick on mirrors, philosophical conversations strewn across hours, bands on the speakers matching the name on your t-shirt, “Setting The World On Fire” is the wonder of how sweet and enervating falling into love can be.

“You can’t conjure a song that captures that feeling of being on the brink like this does,” Chesney says. “The lyrics are a perfect way of saying it, but when you feel that melody rise, the arrangement picking up momentum – it’s bigger than you are, and all you want to do is throw yourself against the night. Then when P!NK comes in, well, that just brings this (song) to life.

Having made the decision to delay the follow-up to The Big Revival – with it’s four straight No. 1s, including the Grammy-nominated “American Kids,” “Wild Child” with Grace Potter and the life-affirming, three-week chart-topper “Save It For A Rainy Day,” Chesney’s hopes of having “Setting The World On Fire” as his next single were realized. For the 8-time Entertainer of the Year, it’s a song that embodies the very best part of what summer holds.

“With the Spread the Love Tour in full force,” the man The Wall Street Journal calls “The King of the Road” says, “I wanted a song that packs all that joy, all that fun, all the energy that love is made of. When I heard ‘Setting The World On Fire,’ I knew it was exactly the song I’d been looking for. Like ‘Somewhere With You,’ there’s an urgency, but this one is ‘in’ the moment – and what a moment it is!”

Given Chesney’s history of unlikely – and often chart-topping – duets with Dave Matthews (“I’m Alive”), the Wailers (“Spread The Love”), Mac McAnally (“Down The Road”), Grace Potter (“You & Tequila,” “Wild Child”) and six weeks at No. 1 with Uncle Kracker (“When The Sun Goes Down”),  teaming with P!NK continues his longstanding tradition of seeking the best collaborators in modern music.

“To me, great songs are great songs regardless of genre – and the core of being alive is the same no matter where you are,” Chesney says. “That rush of realizing there’s something going on here… You’re really clicking with someone… Or even just one of those perfect nights with your friends, there’s no feeling like it. And I like the idea of P!NK with her voice that is so strong and contains so many colours, she really makes that idea of giving into your heart, shouting out the window and whirling around in the middle of an abandoned street feel real.”

DIE ANTWOORD ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM MOUNT NINJI AND DA NICE TIME KID

1

FIRST SINGLE “BANANA BRAIN” AVAILABLE AS INSTANT GRAT WITH PRE-ORDER OF THE NEW ALBUM

LISTEN HERE

“When Ninji, ¥o-landi and God hooked up with The Black Goat and started recording Die Antwoord’s 4th album around 2 years ago the mood of the tracks we started banging out was rough and tough and mischeivious and wild and hard and dark and at that point we were going to call this album RATS RULE, because in life you get the champions and the underdogs and in our minds we sometimes feel like 1 level below the underdogs in this fucked up pop world, but we also know our time is coming, and soon we gonna take over this whole bitch. So anyway, then we made some more tracks and the core of the album stayed all dark and ratty but a new layer oozed out around our dark core that was kinda mental and lunatic and random and juicy and 2 much fun and so we changed the name of our album to WE HAVE CANDY. Then recently while we was finishing up this album another layer exploded out of our dark wild juicy core like a giant supernatural mega aura and suddenly our album was so epic and sometimes vulnerable and sometimes sweet and romantic and so brave and full of mystery and win. Like when you going through hell, and the mission feels impossible, but you not allowed to fail, and all you can do is keep your chin up and keep going, then when you least expect it you emerge from this dark never-ending hole, and… you made it! And you can’t believe it, and you’ve changed inside and you’re better and stronger and calmer and more fun than you were before you journeyed merrily in2 hell. And as we stepped out into the light, a little bruised and battered, but still ok, we blinked and tried to focus then looked at each other and laughed out loud. Then ¥o-landi said, “Why don’t we call the album MOUNT NINJI & DA NICE TIME KID?” And Ninji’s shoulders relaxed and he slumped back into his chair and said, “You a fuckin genius! I love you!” – NINJA & YO-LANDI

WHITE LUNG UNVEILS NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR ‘DEAD WEIGHT’ WHITE LUNG SHORTLISTED FOR POLARIS MUSIC PRIZE

1

Canadian punk band White Lung has topped numerous “Best Album So Far” lists this year including Exclaim!, Stereogum, Rolling Stone, Vulture, Paste, Consequence of Sound, NME and more for their latest and most mature effort to date – Paradise. Now the band has been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize alongside artists including Carly Rae Jepsen, Grimes, and Kaytranada.

Today, White Lung has unveiled the music video for ‘Dead Weight’ – directed by John Stavas and co-produced by Deap Vally’s Lindsey Troy. The clip features lead singer Mish Barber-Way head-banging her way through the track in hyper-kinetic fast forward. Much like the song, it’s an all-out assault on the senses and not for the faint of heart, or those prone to seizures.

Stavas has this to say of the treatment: “Dead Weight is such a heavy hitting song and I wanted to make a video that fit its relentless and rhythmic feel. Mish might never want to headbang again. She deserves a neck rub!”

Where 2014’s Present Tense album found Wild Beasts in reflective mood, absorbing a fascination with online culture and electronic music, Boy King has them, as Fleming puts it, “back to being pissed off”. The quartet’s ever-present knack for sensual melody via Hayden Thorpe and Fleming’s dueting vocals, Ben Little’s sinuous guitar groove and Chris Talbot’s potent rhythm section carries in Boy King an aggressive, snarling and priapic beast that delves into the darker side of masculinity and Thorpe’s own psyche. As Hayden himself says, “After five records there had to be an element of ‘what the fuck?'”.

The raw pop of Boy King’s songs are the perfect foil to Thorpe’s libidinous lyricism: “it became apparent that that guitar almost became the character within the songs, that phallic character, the all-conquering male,” he says. “I’m letting my inner Byron fully out, I thought I’d tucked him away, but he came screaming back like the Incredible Hulk.” Here lies Boy King’s greatest success. Between the slide of prowling aggression and interior darkness, there are glorious, gorgeous moments. It’s yet another incomparable Wild Beasts record; a visceral, sensual and jolting body of work that acts as a remarkable soundtrack to the early 21st century male malaise. Or as Thorpe puts it: “I think Boy King is an apocalyptic record. It’s about swimming in the abyss. When you think about sex, you’ve got to think about death, they’re one and the same.”

Boy King will be released on heavyweight 12″ vinyl including album download card, with a deluxe edition including a bonus 7″ of two bonus songs available via the Wild Beasts online store. The album will also be released on standard and deluxe CD formats, with the deluxe edition including a 12-page booklet, as well as digital download.
