Marianas Trench

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 31st, 2016 – Multi-Platinum selling progressive pop band Marianas Trench have announced their second headlining tour in Canada this year, “Marianas Trench and the Last Crusade,” which kicks off on November 1st in Prince George, BC at CN Centre. VIP tickets will be available on Wednesday, September 7th at 10am local time. General admission tickets will go on sale to the public on Friday, September 9th at 10am local time. Go to for more info and to purchase tickets.

The 15-date tour will showcase new material from their latest released fourth studio album Astoria (604 Records/Sony) which echoes one part 1980’s fantasy adventure film and one part classic Marianas Trench. It honours classic coming of age stories, and reflects on frontman Josh Ramsay’s own personal journey that took him from the highest high to the darkest point in his life and career. “This album is about completely falling to pieces, and picking yourself back up again,” Josh explains. “We took the hardest two years of my life and made it into something beautiful, and our best work to date.”

Excited to be returning home to Canada, the Vancouver-based four-piece announces, “Grab your treasure map and your compass cuz we’re going on an adventure! We can’t wait for our coast to coast quest for the holy grail of rock…and all of Canada is invited!”

Joining the band on tour is Canadian singer/songwriter, Shawn Hook, who is born and raised in British Columbia. Shawn’s musical journey has proven that he is an emotive and soulful singer. His live performances are equally as impressive, showcasing his remarkable depth and vocal range.  Recently, he performed with Hailee Steinfeld at the 2016 iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards.  His sophomore album, Analog Love was released on June 2015 via Universal Music Canada. On the heels of the release, Shawn celebrated “Sound Of Your Heart” a standout track on the record, being certified Platinum in Canada.

Over the last decade, Marianas Trench constantly raised the bar for quality music, which translated into their explosive live shows. They have built their name on relentless touring in Canada and globally, headlining tours in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and soon in Europe for the first time in September-October 2016.

Since their 2006 debut, Fix Me, Marianas Trench have had two Certified Platinum-selling records (Masterpiece Theatre, Ever After), chart topping hits including ‘Fallout,’ ‘Haven’t Had Enough,’ and ‘Stutter,’ garnered multiple SOCAN and MMVA Awards, number 1 videos on MuchMusic, and JUNO nominations, and won the 2013 JUNO Award for Group of the Year. Ramsay also received a Grammy nomination in 2013 for co-writing and producing Carly Rae Jepsen’s breakthrough smash “Call Me Maybe.”

For The First Time In The 25-Year History Of SoundScan!
Toronto, ON – August 30, 2016 – World-renowned singer/songwriter/entertainer Dolly Parton has a worldwide #1 album to celebrate this week. The superstar’s new release Pure & Simple debuts at #1 on Nielsen Canadian SoundScan’s Top Country Album Chart and also on the national country charts in the U.S., U.K. and Australia!
Dolly’s 43rd studio recording and the first release of her recently-announced joint venture between Dolly Records and Sony Music Nashville, achieves #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart with first-week sales of 20,000 units! This marks the first time Dolly has topped Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in the 25-year history of SoundScan.
The new album which released August 19th on Dolly Records/RCA Nashville lands the #10 slot on Nielsen Canadian SoundScan Top Albums Chart and #11 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. On Billboard’s Americana/Folk Albums chart, the disc debuts at #1. In the UK, Pure & Simple enters the all-genre album sales chart at #2, behind Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
Upon hearing the news, Dolly Parton, who co-produced and wrote every song on Pure & Simple, enthused, “Boy, it’s a good day for me. I am a happy girl!” She continued, “It feels great to be #1 as it’s been a long time and it feels so good to still be in the game after all this time.”
Remarked Doug Morris, CEO, Sony Music Entertainment, “Congratulations, Dolly, for your stunning debut with Pure & Simple. You put your heart and soul in this album, and we join you in celebrating a long-overdue #1 on the country album chart.”

“I thought it was a magical time back in 1981, when I first started working with Dolly as we set up her Best Little Whorehouse album on RCA, right after her huge hit, ‘9 To 5,’” reflected Randy Goodman, Chairman & CEO, Sony Music Nashville. “I spent a week with her on the RCA jet visiting radio and retail all over the country.” Goodman continued, “But, to be reunited with Dolly and have a #1 debut is wonderful. Thank you, Doug Morris for bringing Dolly back to RCA.”

CTK Management CEO Danny Nozell said, “There is nobody more deserving of this tremendous success. Having worked with Dolly for the past 13 years, I have never met any person that works harder than her.” Nozell added, “She is a businesswoman that understands her brand and knows exactly what to do and when to do it, and once again, she proves it with a #1 album.”

Last week, Dolly Parton made appearances on NBC’s Today and Tonight Show, among other TV shows.

Pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields
Join in Music of Brahms and Schumann

Album Available September 30, 2016

Violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Steven Isserlis are joined by two acclaimed musical forces – pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, of which Bell is Music Director – in a landmark joint recording, For the Love of Brahms (Sony Classical). Available September 30, 2016, the new album is a unique project that features works of Brahms and Schumann that Bell calls “music about love and friendship.”

A personal, deeply affectionate impulse frequently sparked the music of Johannes Brahms and his mentor, Robert Schumann – often including their mutual friend, the violinist and composer Joseph Joachim. It clearly drove all three works on For the Love of Brahms.

Bell, Isserlis and Denk unite here in Brahms’s first published chamber work, the Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8 in its rarely performed original 1854 version. Isserlis also joins Bell – as violin soloist and director – and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in Brahms’s last orchestral work, the celebrated Double Concerto (for Violin and Cello) in A Minor, Op. 102. Bell, Isserlis and members of the Academy also offer the first recording of an unusual coupling: the slow movement of Schumann’s rarely heard Violin Concerto, in a version for string orchestra made by Benjamin Britten, who also added a short coda.

“I met Steven almost 30 years ago at a music festival, and he has been my close friend and frequent chamber music partner ever since. Jeremy and I have also shared a long-lasting friendship and we have recorded and performed together for more than a decade,” states Bell. “Therefore it is fitting that we all come together on this record to play music that is so deeply rooted in love and friendship.” Earlier this year, Bell, Isserlis and the Academy performed the Brahms Double Concerto to critical acclaim on an 11-date European tour, which Bell play-directed. The tour also featured the Schumann, and this recording followed. “Steven and I have performed the Double concerto of Brahms many times over the years, and I am so pleased that we found the perfect collaborators in the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields so we could finally record this piece that means so much to us,” adds Bell.

In the liner notes he wrote for For the Love of Brahms, Isserlis echoes the belief that Brahms’s early piano trio is suffused with his profound feeling for the Schumanns – Robert as his mentor and Clara as a lifelong friend and inspiration for whom Brahms nurtured a volatile yet unfulfilled love.

Both Schumann and Brahms wrote their violin concertos for Joachim. In the 1880s, however, a misunderstanding ruptured Brahms’s celebrated friendship with Joachim. Brahms’s “peace offering” to Joachim was to write the Double Concerto with him in mind, a gesture that repaired, even if it could not fully restore, the friendship. Clara Schumann referred to it as ‘a work of reconciliation’.

“It was fascinating to explore in this album the extremes of Brahms’ creative career, from the passionate declarations of his youthful trio in B major to the late Double Concerto, his mellow, affectionate farewell to orchestral music. Since the concerto was written to celebrate Brahms’ friendship of over 30 years with violinist Joseph Joachim, it is rather fitting that this recording should mark almost 30 years of close friendship between Joshua Bell and myself,” observes Isserlis.

Bell also has a personal affection for Schumann’s Violin Concerto, especially its slow movement – “it may be my favorite slow movement in any concerto,” he says. Britten’s version was made for a special performance at the Aldeburgh Festival in 1958. It allows the slow movement (which Schumann linked without pause to the final movement) to stand on its own. Isserlis (who also plays the cello melody with which the movement opens) was intrigued to find this arrangement in the Britten-Pears catalogue; he got hold of a copy of the manuscript, and immediately sent it to Bell. Isserlis, Bell and the Academy performed it on the tour in early 2016 for almost certainly the first time since its premiere over half a century ago.

For the Love of Brahms continues Joshua Bell’s long and acclaimed partnership with the London-based chamber orchestra Academy of St Martin in the Fields. Since 2011, Bell has been the orchestra’s Music Director and only person to hold this title since Sir Neville Marriner founded the orchestra in 1958. Bell’s most recent Sony Classical recordings with the orchestra include Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Beethoven’s Fourth and Seventh symphonies (Bell’s first recording as Music Director), and a Bach concerto collection.

Céline and René’s vision of a new collaboration with legendary artist Jean-Jacques Goldman came to fruition with this tailor-made title-track “Encore un soir”, marking a long-awaited reunion, 12 years in the making!

Other renowned collaborators joined Céline in the making of this new opus. For the first time, the legendary Francis Cabrel and Serge Lama co-wrote a song for her. Jacques Veneruso, her most trusted ally in recent years, who has contributed the unforgettable hymns: “Je ne vous oublie pas” and “Parler à mon père” has written and composed a new song as well.  Grand Corps Malade, who had collaborated on Céline’s Sans attendre album has once again offered his poetry to this new album.

New partners have also been added to the family. Zaho, who has proven with her song “Tourner la page” that she knows how to write crossover hits, contributes to the new album. Florent Mothe et Mutine add their names to this new story with four pop-flavoured songs.

As Quebec is always close to Céline’s heart, she wanted to pay tribute to its rich musical repertoire by reinterpreting the classic Robert Charlebois song “Ordinaire”.  Marc Dupré, a multi-platinum artist in Québec and author of many chart topping radio hits, is also collaborating with Céline on this album.  Let’s not forget Daniel Picard, who saw his song “À la plus haute branche” chosen from over 4,000 submissions following a contest launched on Céline’s website.

More involved than ever, Céline voluntarily chose uplifting themes that focused on life and positivity.

“Cooler than ever, Céline Dion is back in mourning, but not in tears, with a French album that will definitely succeed. Phenomenal.”

La Presse

“Céline is back with a collection of songs tailor-made for her by a mix of renowned and new coming collaborators.”

Le Journal de Montréal

“Decidedly, the queen of pop isn’t letting go of her crown just yet!”

Le Paris Match

SUM 41 Releases New Single and Music Video For WAR

Watch Here

August 25th, 2016 – Toronto, ON – Pop punk veterans Sum 41 have released their first single and accompanying music video “War”, from the upcoming album 13 Voices, out October 7th on Hopeless Records. The video for “War” shows the band performing in the middle of a California desert in an airplane graveyard. Singer Deryck Whibley, uncovers reminders of his past – a journal, old drawing, t-shirt, guitar, and empty bottle of alcohol in the wreckage – and burns them along with his past life. Whibley says that the crash site represents how he “crashed and burned” and that the graveyard was “a place for a funeral for my past.”

This song was picked as a single because of its importance to Whibley’s personal life. He states, “I feel that this song literally saved my life. I was at my absolute lowest point of what seemed like a never-ending recovery. When I was at a tipping point of falling back into drinking or staying the course of recovery, I grabbed a pencil and paper instead of a bottle and started writing. Whenever I had any thoughts of giving up, I would read these lyrics to myself over and over again. They helped remind me of what it was that I was fighting for, and that I needed to keep fighting harder. Giving up was not an option.”

Earlier this summer, Sum 41 released a music video for the leading fan track, “Fake My Own Death.” The video has over 3.3 million views, and the number is still rising. Along with the newly released “War”, this is the first look fan’s have into Sum 41’s forthcoming new album, 13 Voices. The ten-track album marks the band’s first LP in five years, following up 2011’s Screaming Bloody Murder, which featured the Grammy Nominated song “Blood In My Eyes.”

The Sum 41 fans have been coming out in overwhelming numbers to the recent live shows, with the band playing to some of the biggest crowds of their career. Most recently wrapping up their summer run on the Vans Warped Tour, the band is currently touring overseas before kicking off their headline tour starting October 5th in Orlando, Florida.

Whibley began writing for 13 Voices immediately following his four-month stint in the hospital. The frontman recalls, “I had to learn how to do everything again-my motor skills, learning how to play guitar again… I couldn’t even walk at the time. It was really difficult, but at the same time if I didn’t have a record to make, I don’t think I would have recovered as quickly, or even at all. Writing music gave me a purpose. I had to get better.” As Whibley’s health improved, so did his ability to write songs, and 13 Voices soon began to take shape being recorded, produced and engineered by Deryck Whibley at his home in Los Angeles.

Sum 41 consists of five members including Deryck Whibley, lead guitarist/backing vocalist Dave Brownsound, co-lead guitarist/backing vocalist Tom Thacker, bassist/backing vocalist Cone McCaslin and drummer Frank Zummo.

(TORONTO, ON AUGUST 25, 2016) – Legendary melodic metal act IN FLAMES announce the release of their twelfth full-length studio album Battles, out November 11 via Eleven Seven Music in the North America and Nuclear Blast globally excluding North America. Recorded in Los Angeles, the 15-track album sees the band taking a new approach while staying true to their vision and encompassing their unique, signature sound. In Flames brought in Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (Papa Roach, My Chemical Romance, The Used) as a collaborator on Battles, creating an album that speaks to all In Flames fans alike.

“I think being in California really affected this album in the sense that we had a studio in the house that we were staying at and the vibe was really relaxed which lent itself to productivity,” says vocalist Anders Fridén. “It really helped having a producer who could make us focus on what we needed to accomplish and keep us on track,” he adds. “This was a very new approach for us because we’ve never let anyone else in the way we did with Howard,” says guitarist Björn Gelotte.

Confidence and palpable excitement is dripping all over Battles. The instantly infectious “take the power back” anthem “The Truth,” will hit radio airwaves this Friday, but fans can get a first taste of the new album with the unveiling of new track “The End” off the upcoming album, premiering exclusively on Decibel Magazine todayand available via streaming partners starting tomorrow 8/26.

Listen to “The End” HERE

Battles sees the band making the hooks sharper, the riffs tighter and honing the overall attack in a way that parallels their legendary live shows in an unparalleled fashion. “When people hear this album I think they’re going to instantly know that it’s the new In Flames without us repeating the same song over and over, and that’s something I’m incredibly proud of,” Fridén says.

Since forming in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1990, In Flames have had six albums debut in the top ten in Sweden, including two #1 debuts. They have toured the globe countless times, performing alongside some of today’s biggest rock and metal acts including, Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Megadeth, and have held several mainstage and headline spots at various music festivals around the world including, Ozzfest, Download Festival, Graspop, Taste of Chaos, Hellfest and Rock Am Ring / Im Park amongst many others. Justin Rutledge is heading back out on the road after a long absence from touring. Justin will be touring Ontario in support of his new album EAST, in stores on September 23rd. EAST was recorded just outside of Halifax in Lake Echo, with producer Daniel Ledwell (Oh Pep, Jenn Grant).

The lead single “Great Ascension” was released a couple of weeks back and now you can watch the brand new video here.
About the song: “It became something broader, something about the search for meaning through art and spirituality,” says Rutledge. “The idea that there’s this ultimate lifelong search in each of our lives whether that be for something tangible or intangible, religious or secular or extraterrestrial, whatever floated your boat. We each have our own ascensions we’re waiting for.”

The video was Directed by Colin Harrington, aka a Pocket History of Mars, with footage collected over a road trip throughout the Southern United States as well as around Justin’s home in eastern Ontario.
About the video: “I wanted to visually capture the concepts (in the song) of the human need to believe in “the Other” and the desire for individual spiritual ascension, and how these motivations express themselves is our architecture and art across North America.” shares Harrington.

EAST is the follow up to Justin’s 2014 Tragically Hip tribute album Daredevil. His last album of original material was Valleyheart, which won the 2014 Juno Award for Solo Roots Recording. A lifelong Torontonian, Justin now lives in Prince Edward County.

(Disruptor Records/Columbia Records – New York, NY – August 23, 2016) Pop music’s biggest breakout act of the year, artist/producer duo The Chainsmokers, have captured their first-ever #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with new smash single “Closer.” The track marks their third to make the chart’s Top 10 this year, following “Don’t Let Me Down” at #3 and “Roses” at #6. “Closer,” which features vocals from rising star Halsey and the duo’s own Drew Taggart, also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart, Hot Digital Tracks chart and the Dance/Electronic chart upon release.

“Closer” currently sits at #1 on iTunes’ Top Songs chart, making it the number one selling song in the country with over 300,000 downloads sold in just three weeks. The track also reached #1 on Apple Music, with over 5 million U.S. streams this week alone. Additionally, “Closer” is ranked #1 on Spotify Canada and U.S. with over 11 million streams this week, making The Chainsmokers the 4th most listened to artist on Spotify in the world. In Canada, the track is the #1 most added song on CHR, the #2 most added on all formats, and the #3 most added on Hot AC. In the U.S., the track is pop radio’s most added song for a third straight week, while the song’s lyric video has surpassed 76 million views to date. In the U.K., “Closer” has reached the Top 5 on the singles chart while previous hit “Don’t Let Me Down” remains in the Top 10.

The release of “Closer” comes hot on the heels of the duo’s two massive smash hits this year, “Roses” ft. Rozes and “Don’t Let Me Down” ft. Daya, both of which are certified double platinum. Earlier this year, “Roses” steadily climbed the charts to #1 on the iTunes Dance chart (Top 5 overall), #3 at Pop radio and Top 5 in U.S. Shazam tags. “Don’t Let Me Down” ft. Daya, which was named one of Rolling Stone’s ‘30 Best Songs of 2016 So Far,’ followed, marking the duo’s third #1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. The track ruled the airwaves, hitting #1 at Pop Radio for three consecutive weeks and Top 5 on the iTunes Top Songs chart.

This year, The Chainsmokers have been nominated for two Billboard Music Awards, two Teen Choice Awards and an iHeartRadio MMVA and MTV Video Music Award respectively. They have performed all over the world to sold-out crowds at their own headline shows and major festivals including SXSW, Ultra, VELD, and Coachella, where their set was ranked as one of Billboard‘s “11 Best Moments” of the festival. Their evolution as producers and as songwriters has seen them dial up some of the biggest breakthrough songs of the year.

Lisa LeBlanc releases Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen?

MONTREAL – Juno award-nominee Lisa LeBlanc is releasing “Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen?” on September 30, 2016 via Montreal label Bonsound. She begins touring September 29 in Montreal and adds a date in Toronto on October 14 and Moncton October 18. Complete tour dates are below.

At 26 years old, the captivating singer, guitarist and banjo player who hails from Rosaireville, New Brunswick and now lives in Montreal, has toured for four years with her band and sold over 140 000 records on two continents. Her ability to compose rousing heartwrenching narratives from the everyday via tales of love, friendship and heartbreak has brought on comparisons to the sharp wit of Courtney Barnett, the rambling honesty of Bob Dylan and the high flying sincerity of Dolly Parton.

She shares the first tune from the album, called “Dump The Guy ASAP”

Recorded at Mixart Studio and at Mountain City Studios in Montreal, “Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen?” came together in the spring, and was guided by a wonderful team. Joseph Donovan took the reigns as Producer (Sam Roberts, The Dears) with Mico Roy on guitar, Benoit Morier on guitar and bass and Maxime Gosselin on drums. Award-winning singer Sam Roberts stopped in to help out with guest vocals on the tune “I Love You, I Don’t Love You, I Don’t Know.”

Last fall, Nashville was the starting point for a road trip which was a turning point of sorts, musically and personally for Lisa LeBlanc. A huge fan and follower of cajun music and culture, her journey led her to Blackpot Camp in Eunice, Louisiana. Through workshops of all genres from Appalachian banjo to traditional cajun songs and guitars, to bluegrass flatpicking, square dancing and louisiana two-step, the trip provoked much inspiration.

Through further meandering through Lafayette, New Orleans, Austin, Asheville and New York she acquired new skills to refine her guitar and banjo technique. Guided by her nomadic instinct and experiences, she ended up her new album which also includes throwback inspiration from her teenage years as well as hints of rock, folk, blues, classic rock, spaghetti western and even, some hawaiian music. Road songs and the people along the way provide the main inspiration, as well as the love songs and break-up songs you always wanted to write yourself.

“Why You Wanna Leave, Runaway Queen?” is a 12 track album which includes many original songs road tested over the last two years as well as her first bluegrass tinged recording (and live show favourite) of Motörhead classic “Ace of Spades.”
