A$AP Mob

[Toronto, ON – October 26, 2016] A$AP Mob announces today the long-awaited second group album, Cozy Tapes Vol 1: Friends-, will be released digitally on Monday, October 31st, via A$AP Worldwide / Polo Grounds Music / RCA Records.  New songs off the album, “Telephone Calls” and “Runner,” will drop Friday, October 28th.

Last week Red Bull Studios in London debuted the new AWGE-produced short film Money Man, directed by A$AP Rocky and Dexter Navy.  The short film is sound-tracked by two new songs “Money Man” and “Put That On My Set” featuring A$AP Rocky, A$AP Nast, Yung Lord and Skepta, that will be on the Mob’s digital and physical releases.

The short film finds Rocky, Nast and Skepta in a darker parallel universe dealing with an abrasive reality, where the dichotomy of beauty and terror are interpolated fluidly.  The film, shot in northwest London, also stars Said Taghmaoui, well known for his role in the 1955 French film “La Haine.”  Producing and directing the Money Man short is one of many new endeavors ventured upon by AWGE over the past year.  Other recent announcements for the creative collective include projects with MTV Labs, Guess, MIDNIGHT, VLONE and more.

Cozy Tapes Vol 1: Friends- is the blueprint laid out by one of the founding members of A$AP Mob and the often-referred to spiritual guide, A$AP Yams, who tragically passed in early 2015 and was known amongst his peers and beyond as one of the most respected and beloved members of the community. Earlier this year, A$AP Mob members came together in NYC to commemorate his life at the first annual sold-out Yams Day show at T5 and were joined by Yams’ mother Tatianna Paulino

who spoke and gave her blessing.  Throughout the summer of 2016, the A$AP Mob track “Yamborghini High” featuring A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Twelvyy, A$AP Nast, A$AP Ant and Juicy J became an anthem and the colorful camouflage video sky-rocketed the song, now with over 38M views on YouTube and over 20M track streams on DSP.  The Mob performed the song in late July on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and brought exciting live performances throughout the summer.     Earlier this month, A$AP Rocky announced a partnership between AWGE and MTV Labs and premiered another song off the album, “Crazy Brazy” featuring A$AP Rocky, A$AP Twelvyy and Key!, which now has over 1.5M streams between Apple, Spotify and YouTube

Soft Hair Share new song ‘Relaxed Lizard’

Soft Hair

‘Relaxed Lizard’ – listen HERE

With their long awaited debut album out this Friday, October 28th on Weird World, the pair of Connan Mockasin and Sam Dust, aka Soft Hair, have shared the album’s opening track, ‘Relaxed Lizard’.

Listen to ‘Relaxed Lizard’ on YouTube HERE
Listen to ‘Relaxed Lizard’ on streaming services HERE

The latest release follows debut single ‘Lying Has To Stop’ (watch the video HERE) and ‘In Love’ (listen HERE).

The album’s recording took place five years ago amongst the pair’s solo careers. After the dispersion of Late of the Pier, whom Connan supported on tour in 2009 (the first time the two met), Sam travelled Eurasia, Africa and elsewhere, spending time inventing his own instruments, producing and directing, and re-emerging as LA PRIEST in 2015 with debut solo album Inji.

Connan meanwhile released the albums Forever Dolphin Love and later Caramel and toured the world extensively, working with artists such as James Blake, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Vince Staples.

The songs on this album were written and recorded in a wide array of locations using methods that Mockasin and Dust developed throughout its’ creation. As a result, the record gives the listener a view into an exotic world with a blend of familiar, unfamiliar and unconventionally attractive sounds.

New Lyric Video for “You Want It Darker” is Live

(October 21, 2016) Sony Music Entertainment Canada and Columbia Records celebrate Leonard Cohen’s 14th studio album YOU WANT IT DARKER, which is available in stores and digitally worldwide today.  To accompany the release of the album is the premiere of the lyric video for the lead single “You Want It Darker.” Click here to watch.

“What is truly extraordinary about Cohen is not that he is still making albums but that they are as rich, deep and potent as ever,” UK Telegraph – 5 stars

C’est surtout un album d’une rare beauté dans lequel les musiques, à la fois riches et dépouillées, se mettent vraiment au service de la voix à nulle autre pareille de Leonard Cohen qui n’a jamais paru si proche’,” La Presse – 5 stars

The 82-year-old Leonard Cohen continues to wow audiences with his most prolific album yet. The new collection of startling songs was produced by his son Adam Cohen, and following last week’s global launch event at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles, the accolades for this body of work have been pouring in from around the world.

“Cohen’s voice remains strong, measured and assured. There is, as ever, flashes of playful humour in his wonderful use of language,” The Irish Times – 5 stars

“Leonard Cohen Makes It Darker. At eighty-two, the troubadour has another album coming. Like him, it is obsessed with mortality, God-infused, and funny,” The New Yorker

“Avec You Want It Darker, disque à la fois puissant et sombre dans lequel il aborde des thèmes qui lui sont chers comme la mortalité et la spiritualité, Leonard Cohen nous prouve qu’il est toujours aussi inspire,” Le Journal de Montreal

“An unquestioned masterpiece. Cohen courts what is most uncomfortable in the human condition and transforms that terrifying unease into something of great beauty – and in the process, some comfort too,” The Arts Desk – 5 stars

“El aroma cálido, oscuro, seductor y reflexivo de la trayectoria de Cohen resulta reconocible en su nuevo disco,”  La Razón

“This is Cohen’s gift to music lovers: a realistically grim, spiritually radiant and deeply poetic worldview, spiked with a romantic thrum and an existential wink,” Rolling Stone – 4 stars

“You Want It Darker, it is such a pleasure to listen to… this album confirms he has much more to say, much more to share, as a sage who doesn’t offer himself as such but rather as a fellow questioner stumbling through.  Yes, Leonard, if you’re asking, we do want it darker,” Sydney Morning Herald – 4.5 stars

Valerie June

20 OCTOBER 2016 (Toronto, ON) – Valerie June’s highly anticipated second album, The Order of Time, is set for release on January 27th, 2017 via Concord Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. On this enthralling and illuminating leap forward, the Tennessee-bred, Brooklyn based songwriter weaves electric blues, African rhythms, cosmic atmospherics and delicate soul into an inventive and wholly original rumination on love, family, struggle and the passing of time. Produced by Matt Marinelli (Beck, Bad Brains), The Order of Time includes twelve original songs all written by June, and features piano accompaniment from Norah Jones on three tracks and vocals from June’s father and brothers on the driving rocker “Shake Down.”

Musically, June has refined and expanded her sound on the new album finding space from her previous work in its artful, self-assured restraint and overall cohesion. The collection’s finely sketched character studies brim with richness and detail while June’s ethereal, wide-open soundscapes provide a sterling backdrop for her remarkable Southern gospel and honey voice.  Lyrical touch points such as ‘dancing shadows,’ ‘hot suppers,’ ‘curious neighbors,’ and ‘holy water’ draw the listener in and root these songs with density and weight. The ‘inevitability of change’ and ‘time as the ruler of Earth’s rhythm,’ is the album’s foundation, explains June.

“Long Lonely Road” is a reflective and somber lament as June’s voice reverberates over ringing guitar and unhurried drums, whereas the entrancing blues of “If And” internalizes regret in the face of time’s relentless churn. On the spiritual “Astral Plane,” June’s mystical vocal takes an otherworldly turn; while the sumptuous string arrangement on “With You,” is reminiscent of Nico’s most affecting work.

The Order of Time follows June’s 2013 breakout LP, Pushin’ Against a Stone that established her as one of America’s “most intriguing, fully formed new talents” according to the New York Times. She garnered praise from NPR, “a singular performer” and New York Magazine, “a powerful singer and a blunt, bruising songwriter.”

Look for June, currently on tour with Norah Jones, to announce 2017 headlining dates shortly

The Order of Time Track List:
1. Long Lonely Road
2. Love You Once Made
3. Shake Down
4. If And
5. Man Done Wrong
6. The Front Door
7. Astral Plane
8. Just In Time
9. With You

17 OCTOBER 2016 (Toronto, ON) – Multiple Grammy®, Golden Globe, and Academy Award-winning Chicago-based rapper, actor, social activist, and philanthropist Common follows up the release of his explosive and politically relevant new single “Black America Again” featuring Stevie Wonder with today’s announcement that BLACK AMERICA AGAIN, the eponymously titled new album will arrive November 4th on ARTium/Def Jam Recordings/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company.

“I wrote this song in March,” Common said of Black America Again” recently, “and unfortunately it was as relevant then as it is now.  As it could have been in the 1960s or 1800s or any era that we have existed in this country.”  The song’s socially conscious message resonates with scorching yet uplifting power, akin to Common’s groundbreaking 2014 single from the Selma movie soundtrack, Glory” (with John Legend) for which they received Oscar, Grammy®, Golden Globe, and numerous other awards.

“‘Black America Again’,” Common continued, “is centred in the injustices that black people have experienced and endured since we arrived on the shores of America.  ‘Black America Again’ is a call to action.  It is a song about black love, black strength, black justice, black resistance, black resilience, black empowerment, and black people.”

BLACK AMERICA AGAIN, the 11th studio album from Common, is the long-awaited follow-up to Nobody’s Smiling (2014), which entered the Rap and R&B charts at #1.  The album marked a creative reunion between Common and long-time friend and collaborator No I.D., who came of age in the ’90s as producer of Common’s first three albums.  The album also features the anthem “Letter To The Free” featuring Bilal, the end-title track to Ava Duvernay’s powerful new documentary ‘13th.’ Centered on race in the United States criminal justice system, the film is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which theoretically outlawed slavery. Acclaimed director of Selma, DuVernay argues that slavery is being perpetuated, however, through mass incarceration. Letter To The Free” has already been nominated for a 2016 Critics’ Choice Documentary Award for “Best Song in a Documentary.”

Arkells today also announce their headlining North American tour, which will kick off in January, 2017.  The 21 date “2017 Morning Report Tour” launches south of the border before returning home for 10 stops across Canada, listed below. $1 from each ticket sold on the Canadian tour will be donated to Partners in Health, with the service of Plus 1. For further information on the shows, click here.

“I don’t think we’ve ever toured with such kindred spirits,” says Arkells front man Max Kerman with regards to the pairing. “They embody everything I love about rock’n’roll, and they make us bring our A-game every night. Our biggest shows yet deserve the best lineup, and that’s what we’ve got here.” After a string of dates together, Turner recently tweeted, “I’m totally mainlining Arkells new record. It’s so FUCKING GOOD.”

The tour is in support of Arkells’ acclaimed fourth studio album, Morning Report, out now via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Produced by Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, My Morning Jacket), Tony Hoffer (Beck, M83), Brian West (Sia, AWOLNATION), and Gus van Go (The Stills, Wintersleep).
